Are You Where You Want To Be?
Hi from Peter Thurin. I'm sure you'll find some valuable info in this newsletter,
my first for the year. Now that the blackbelt in excellence website's
up and rolling, you can expect to hear from me on a regular basis, as I point
you in the direction YOU want to be going. And that's it really, isn't it?
You need to know where YOU want to be in 12 months from now, 2 years from now,
5, 10. And the good news? I can help you get there. I hope one of the things
you'll do, if you haven't done it already, is jump in on my online community,
so that I can reach you on a regular basis. In this issue:

Is the Balance Right?
Hey, could this year be flying any faster? How are those resolutions you made
at the start of 2008 going? At a conference I gave a couple of weekends ago,
I had a fantastic couple from Perth with me. And even though the focus of the
weekend was on business, guess what their major concern was? Their relationship
with their two little boys. As disciplined as they were in their business,
they just weren't managing to get enough quality time with their beautiful
kids! We did some work on that, and I'm going to work with them one-on-one
for a while to make sure they get the right structures in place. That's SO
important. All the business success in the world means nothing if you're standing
at your kid's 21st birthday party and nobody in the room knows you! You know
what I mean.
Do you have any stories of how you are balancing work and family? If so, email
me comments@blackbeltinexcellence.com.au,
I would love to hear from you.
Free Podcasts
Hey, speaking of parenting. I'm very excited. I've just been in the studio
recording some inspirational
podcasts. Now, those of you who know me well would
know that, until recently, "podcast" is
not a word that's been in my vocabulary. (Isn't it fantastic what we learn
from our children!). But
now there are half a dozen podcasts on the blackbelt in
excellence site,
and one of them is all about family relationships. Hope you'll find it valuable...it's
about 5 or 6 minutes of a chat I had with radio man Peter Byrne. We've actually
covered a whole lot of topics - money, health, career, life balance & so
on. Have
a listen. And I really want to hear from you on what you think ....in
future newsletters, I'm going to be sharing your thoughts on a whole range
of topics, as we move forward together, one step at a time, one belt at a
time, to our very own blackbelt in excellence.By the way, in case you're
unsure, I have a page that explains what
is a podcast . Click on and learn!! (I myself had to!)
The Important Things in Life
You know I've got a special place in my heart for kids. In fact, a portion
of the sales of my book "be the
best you can be" goes
to ACCYO, an organisation devoted to creating a safer Australia for our children.
Have
you got a copy of my book yet? You can click
& buy it right here on the website.
Here's a quick story about what can happen when you do something
as simple
as picking up a phone. A friend of mine has had a challenge in the last
3 years with the older of his 2 daughters. She's now 26. He has a brilliant
relationship
with the younger girl, 24, but has been estranged from the older one for
a while. Until last week. He decided that it was long enough and made the
first
step. He rang her mobile. And guess what...she'd been thinking of doing
exactly
the same thing for months, but just hadn't had the courage. Now they're
back on track, back on the same page, back in each other's hearts. Brilliant.
And as simple as 1 phone call. Is there a call you could make that might
change
someone's life? Go ahead...pick up the phone. be the
best you can be!!!
Taking Small Steps
It's all about taking those small steps, isn't it? At a seminar just recently,
I was challenging a group of business people to tell me what they could do
to improve their business effectiveness and their customer satisfaction. We
were looking for the 1%-ers, the vital but easy-not-to-do steps that make such
a difference. The range of answers was fantastic, but one struck me powerfully.
One managing director, when I asked him for a 1%-er to move his company into
the stratosphere, said "I need to get healthier". What a fantastic
answer. He realised that unless he himself was fitter, leaner and stronger,
he couldn't fully realise the tremendous potential of his company. If you're
maybe like that, remember the martial arts metaphor from blackbelt in excellence
- it's one step at a time, one coloured belt at a time. You don't have to run
a marathon Day 1. But can you do 2 sit-ups and 2 push-ups today? Sure! Easy
to do. But also easy NOT to do. Your choice!!
Here's to your phenomenal success in 2008. If I can help you in any way, get
in touch. Email me 24/7 on comments@blackbeltinexcellence.com.au Have
a listen to the new podcasts (and I'll let you know when new ones are posted).
And feel
free to share them around. They're great on iPods!! Pick up a copy of my book
while you're here, too. And what about the audio CD? Did you know I have a
60
minute audio program, also called "be the
best you can be",
available on CD? Peter Byrne and I spend an hour talking through some of
the most dynamic
parts of my book. It's a fantastic way of reinforcing some of the most powerful
principles of success I know. Brilliant in the car (or on the iPod!). You
can purchase either the book or the CD here on site. Or both if you like
...special package price!!
Looking forward to working with you this year, whether it's one on one or
with your company. The contact link here on site will reach me direct.
